Respond to this article

Letter to the Editor

Dated March 18, 1998

I am writing this is response to your article "How's the Family".

My husband has been a police officer for over 15 years. He is a wonderful man and I wouldn't trade him for the world. I often search the net looking for webstites that are of interest to the both of us. That is how I found your site.

Your article "How's the Family" really hit home for me. My husband and I both work full time and because of our conflicting work schedules we seldom see much of each
other. He is always asleep when I get up for work in the morning and I am usually asleep by the time he makes it home. His work schedule is 4 days on and 3 days off but of course his days off are different than mine. We finally have 1 day a week off together but he is usually so tired from working the long hours all week that he sleeps most of the day. I finally got so frustrated that I found a babysitter to watch our son so that we could go out on a "date" once a week. My husband is so happy that I did that because it allows us to spend some much needed quality time together. We really look forward to our dates.

I know my husband loves being a police officer so much and I would never ask him to give it up, but it is very difficult for us at times. There are many times when his job really puts a strain on our relationship but reading your article made me realize that my feelings are normal and that because we love and respect each other we will get through the difficult times.

Thank you,

Michelle Stover-Blaine
